For the first time since 2002, teenage pregnancy rates have risen in England, despite government efforts to educate the youth in contraceptive use and protected sex. The rise in pregnancies has also brought on a spike in abortions, which is now up to 50%.
"This is another Government target missed," said Andrew Lansley, the Conservative Shadow Health Secretary.
"Once again it demonstrates how pointless it is to set targets if the Government doesn't do what is needed to deliver on them," he added.
Meanwhile, abortion providers couldn't be happier with the news.
"The fact that half of the teenagers in this position felt able to end their pregnancy in abortion is actually a positive sign," said Ann Furedi, chief executive of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), the UK's largest abortion provider. She also went on to claim that these abortions were "an entirely good thing."
Regardless of how many pregnancies are terminated, the fact that there are so many teenagers carrying a child goes to show you how utterly clueless and incompetent the British government is. Then again, England isn't known for being wise with their money.
