Napoleon should have done the same: Dying in battle, tough dying at a great victory is bittersweet but dying when having lost for ever a mere necessity. But of course are always the winners the good guys: Just think of Harold Godwinson! If he had prevailed at Hastings over the French Normans he would today be hailed as the great Viking-slayer and liberator of England!

The Napoleonic wars were good for nobody but in the end it paved the way for Brtain to have naval supremacy, Napoleon weakened France at the expense of a short lived success and afew victorious battles. A shame really.

Oh yes, and the money. To you, who claim to have lost your life savings on Icesave, did you notice that the money is repaid, and the initial numbers cited in the crash were vastly overestimated and we will according to predictions be the first to recover from this mess?
Did you really lose money or is this just a joke to you? Britain's record throughout history in this matter is not exactly squeeky clean as you may realise.

Thats simply not true, Iceland as not repaid the money it owes, the British government as paid the average citizen who lost money. As for the charities and local councils who invested, they still stand to loose billions!. Where do you get your facts from? The Fantasy Island Daily News? Iceland being the first to recover,? you cant be getting the facts, every expert is saying you are totally finished in banking terms.

French revolution & Napoleon: Firstly the coalition declared war on revolutionary France while Napoleon was still a lieutenant of the artillery! His rise was in the first coalition wars against France; after the various fraction did destroy each other he was able to complete his coup, Machiavelli wrote about this danger in case of successful warlords.

France was bankrupt before and lost most her colonies in the 7 Years War but was able to undo Englands victory in the North America. I oppose Napoleon as a conqueror and tyrant but do not deny his magnificent military achievement and abilities. Also European history would not be the same without Austerlitz, Trafalgar, Waterloo and Leipzig. If Napoleon could have prevailed to gain hegemony in Europe for France I do not know...

The media these days are of course very unreliable, but rest assured that the average Icelander does want to see this mess ending well, as well as you.
About the media, have you considered that the mainstream British media is considered a joke in most other countries? This is a "their experts vs. our experts" issue.

Every country as its gutter press the UK is no different. Having said that some of the most respected newspapers in the world are British eg. The Times and thats saying the same as all the others.(finance wise anyway)

Britains economy is badly hit so thats the news headlines at the moment. I get Sky news on TV and there the front pages are read and shown on screen. Your own peoples opinions on your Tabloid journalism isn't that high either generally I hear.

When you say the British media you are then including The BBC and Sky News and as i previously mentioned the Times newspaper then the Guardian and the Independent and a few others. There reputation is unequalled anywhere in the world. Its a ridiculous sweeping statement to brand all the British media like that. BTW why are you watching sky news then if UK media is so dire?
